Rest in Peace, J. R.

Sunday Stealing: The Wish List Meme, Part One

1.) What are 3 things on your Wish list and why? World peace, politicians working together and a ton of $$$ for me. I gotta be honest.

2.) What do you miss about your childhood? Not worrying about anything. Mom and Dad had all the answers.

3.) What do you do on your spare time on the weekends? This shit, obviously. Although, since I no longer write the memes, I enjoy doing them more. Here’s a fee for yesterday: Kathy put together the gas grill I bought. (She can put ANTHING together, which saves a ton…) I can’t help for three reasons: 1- My back. 2- I’m an idiot with directions. 3- I took a picture of Kathy putting it together for her facebook page. She took one of me having a Smirnoff. Her nephew wrote to me on facebook, “Way to go Bud! You drink and have her work!”

4.) What do you appreciate most in your life? Kathy.

5.) Would you rather be rich or healthy? Healthy. What a fucking stupid question.

6.) If you could go back in time would you and why? Yes. Just cuz…

7.) Favorite game as a child? Doctor.

8.) What is your dream career? I’d be back in radio doing a morning show somewhere.

9.) What do you do in your free time? Last night we watched “The Hunger Games”. That was one intense flick. I still can’t say whether I liked it.

10.) Favorite clothing stores? Tees and shorts.

11.) What TV shows can't you live without? I cannot believe I’m watching Dallas again. Larry Hagman’s death is now a plot point. Rest in peace, J.R.

12.) 3 things you need in your life are: Diet Coke, Smirnoff & Kathy. Not in that order. I think…

13.) What can't you sleep without? My iPod. I listen to WTIT comedy to drift off.

14.) What are you currently a nerd for? Currently, Stargate Atlantis. I got a Roku (A device to watch internet shows on your TV. It's a one time charge.) I can now watch a ton of things for free. The Crossing Jordan series is not available on DVD or regular TV. The fight is over music fees. Netflix has it and I finally got Kathy to watch it and find out about my crush on the Jordan character.

15.) What is your favorite seasoning? Garlic.

16.) What is your favorite wild animal? Lion. I can watch documentaries about them all day.

17.) Name 3 of your favorite childhood shows: Bite me.

18.) If you could live as a character in a movie who would it be? Captain Kirk.

19.) Favorite vegetable? Corn.

20.) Favorite Fruit? Grapes.

21.) If you had a dragon what would you name it? Puff. Is there another one that smokes pot?

22.) What do you put on hotdogs? Why would anyone care?

23.) Do you play online games? Just Saturday 9 & Sunday Stealing.

24.) What's your favorite way to get inspired? Give me some good old rock ‘n roll.

25.) Do you have a middle name? Yes.

What a great start to a new era of Stealing! Great job, Allison! See you next weekend. Same time, same blog.

I Know It Isn't the Same

1) In the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Ferris climbs up on a parade float and enthusiastically lip synchs this song, encouraging the entire crowd to join in. Do you know the lyrics of "Twist and Shout" well enough to sing along? No. But let me think...Well, shake it up, baby, now, (shake it up, baby) Twist and shout. (twist and shout) Cmon cmon, cmon, cmon, baby, now, (come on baby) Come on and work it on out. (work it on out) Well, work it on out, honey. (work it on out) You know you look so good. (look so good) You know you got me goin, now, (got me goin) Just like I knew you would. (like I knew you would, oooh!) Well, shake it up, baby, now, (shake it up, baby) Twist and shout. (twist and shout) Cmon, cmon, cmon, cmon, baby, now, (come on baby) Come on and work it all out. (work it all out, oooh!) You know you’re a twisty little girl, (twist little girl) You know you twist so fine. (twist so fine) Come on and twist a little closer, now, (twist a little closer) And let me know that you're mine. (let me know you’re mine oooh) Ahhhhhhhhhh(root) Ahhhhhhhhhh(third) Ahhhhhhhhhh(fifth) Ahhhhhhhhhhh(seventh) Ahhhhh Ahhhhh Woah, Yeah

2) What other Beatles' song do you know all the words to? That would just be “Is there a Beatles song?” This was originally Top Notes song that Phil Specter produced. It flopped. The Isley Brother’s had a huge hit with it. The Beatles covered the Isley’s version. Oh, to the question, yes I know them all except Revolution 9.

3) 49 years after their American debut, The Beatles are acknowledged as having a lasting impact on both music and culture. What performers on today's music scene do you think will be remembered 50 years from now? I waited for years to hear the next band that would have The Beatles impact. It was to my surprise that no band has even come close. So, no to this one too.

4) Paul McCartney is an enthusiastic advocate of the vegetarian lifestyle. Could you/have you tried to "go veggie?" No to this one, three. I love you Paul, but your diet sucks.

 5) As a young boy, Ringo Starr suffered a severe attack of appendicitis and almost died. Do you still have your appendix? What about your tonsils? Yes to appendix, but no to tonsils.

6) John Lennon sketched and doodled when he was bored or nervous. Do you have any nervous habits? Yes, we call it Smirnoff.

 7) George Harrison loved Hawaii so much he bought a 63-acre estate in Maui. Have you ever visited our 50th state? No, but my son-in law’s mother lives there. And yes, I know that isn’t the same.

8) Yoko Ono was a polarizing character in the Beatles' saga. Has any of your friends ever dated/married someone you just could not stand? Not in the Yoko sense. I have had several that I didn’t get the up side to the person, but never a deal breaker. I've had several that maneuvered their husband to leave WTIT, but even that is not a problem for me. We always found another to take that chair.

9) Paul has had dogs his entire adult life, including a sheepdog, Martha, and a black lab, Jet. John was especially fond of a cat named Elvis and a tomcat he found in the snow and named Tim. Tell us about one of your pets. I have my virtual dog, Happy. He’s great! I never have to walk or feed him and he never barks too loud! The real “Happy” story is this: In WTIT’s movie spoof, “The Bounty Hunter” Galloping Gary plays a returning war hero named "Reb". When he returns home he finds his family is so broke that they have had to sell his sister and warned that if they don’t get some cash, Reb’s dog “Happy” is next. Reb does a few minutes on how much “Happy” means to him. Later, during a bank robbery the Sheriff (played by Bouncing Billy) has some bad news for Reb, “My wife is dead, Reb and so is your dog”. Reb is heartbroken. “I can see killing people. But a dog? He was such a good dog! I make this pledge, I’ll find the bastards who killed you. And, I will never forget you, Rover!” The Sheriff whispers, “Your dog’s name was ‘Happy.’”

We will be back tomorrow for Stealing. See you then. Same time, same blog.

Happy Trails Mr. Lance

Stealing: The Unlucky 13

1. On average, how long does it take you to get ready for work/school/a day or night out? Overall this has been a bang up day. And I started it with a sucko question. For the record: Lance did do a long rambling explanation as to why he quit and then did a last meme of questions from memes we’d already done. I do wish him well. I just hope as I start the process of looking for a new host, I feel that I’d just do this new one instead, without the letter from Lance. This is just a meme I actually stole last night. I knew from the start that Lance was overwhelmed. I just didn’t know to what extent. Stealing, as the author, is much tougher than it would appear. If any of you (those who read my nonsense) have any clue on what we should do here. I’d love ideas. I know that I won’t have it in me to do this again long. I’d hate to see it die.

2. If you could ask your favorite author one question about the book(s) they wrote, what would it be? I’d ask Tolkien what he thought of his one book becoming three movies.

3. What do you think is the hardest thing about growing up? I’ve learned that the older you get, the less you know. It took a long time to realize it.

4. Who would you rather switch places with for a day: your favorite celebrity, or your favorite fictional character? Since my favorite celebrity is Jill Hennessy, I’ll go with a character. Perhaps Jack O’Neil of SG-1. 5. Who would you rather have point out a flaw that you weren't aware you had: a close personal friend, or a total stranger? I guess the point is that a stranger might not embarrass you as much. I’m not keen on strangers giving me opinions on my life. 6. Do you get jealous easily? If so, what sorts of qualities or characteristics in other people are you most likely to be jealous of? These are two completely different questions. The first answer is that I generally don’t do jealous. As far as a characteristic I’d want, has to do with work. There’s a couple of areas in which I’d love t improve.

7. Which version of yourself would you rather have a conversation with: the one from ten years ago, or the one you turn into ten years from now? I always want to know the future.

8. Were you ever bullied in any way as a child? If so, how has it shaped you today? Most of us were bullied at some point. It effected my life at the time but now, not so much.

9. What is one fear you would like to overcome in your lifetime? Fear of writing. I, unlike most people, have never thought I had “a book in me”. Since I have strong and unheard of interpretations of The Beatles lyrics from Rubber Soul to Let It Be, I thought if I ever wrote I do it on that. I did a paper on it for a psych class in college and got an A+. Kathy has encouraged me to write. But as I started that book, I realized I’d much rather do a book on WTIT and my DJ career. I’ve still got every tape that we recorded since 1967. I’ve been transferring cassettes to digital for a half-year or so. As I hear parts of them I hear so many stories of my life that I’ve forgotten. It’s like a journal, but you are totally there. I can close my eyes and know where everyone was sitting. One DJ who occasionally did solo show at his home did a “final solo show” after we graduated from high school. He spoke directly to me as he did it. Talking about what the experience and our friendships meant to him. I listened to it in its entirety yesterday. The music was super and I don’t think I realized how grateful guys have been when asked to join in. I think this will be the book that I write.

10. What is one food you haven't tried yet that you would like to? I’m really adventurous with that. The last new food I had was at an Indian wedding. I had goat and a bunch of new food that was great.

11. Is it easier to forgive someone for the wrong they've done you or to seek forgiveness from someone that you've wronged in any way? I’m pretty forgiving. It’s like that with Stealing. I could have been pissed off with a week’s notice, but I wasn’t. The only thing I wouldn’t do was to give him my platform to say goodbye. Not because he didn’t deserve to, but rather because I want the next transaction to go seamlessly without the drama. I would imagine that he’s probably pissed, but I’m more interested in the players than the host. I was up to 4 AM returning the meme to the way I originally set it up. I did not mind the changes, since I gave him the keys, but while I briefly host again, I’ll do it my way.

12. Let’s go random: What did you do for New Year’s Eve for the turn of the millennium? I went to a nightclub with my girlfriend of the time. It was a dive bar that I loved had good bands. She was a good sport since she was not used to that scene. She was the first serious girlfriend after my second marriage. It was a long trip before I met Kathy and wed yet again.

13. What else around here have you noticed? I just hope I don’t fuck up stealing. I’m so fond of it, but can’t do this and my book. Perhaps next week when I start the process of finding the next “Judd”, I’ll get lucky fast.

Yesterday I wrote about the infrequent posts that I’m doing. I said something like “See you again if I ever come back”. I just didn’t know it would be today. Peace. See you next weekend…

Wake Up Maggie

Saturday 9: I Don't Want to Talk about it

1) Crazy Sam is beyond sick of all things Kardashian! What's a topic you're just tired of and don't want to talk about anymore? The political divide. Having grown up watching politicians working toward compromise, seeing what goes on today makes me want to hurl. Personally, I blame Rush. It seems his was the first shot fired that beget Fox News and the rest. To watch reporters show no respect to our President is nauseating. Growing up, anchors like Walter Cronkite or Huntley/Brinkley tried to be objective. Today, everyone has an agenda.

 2) Rod Stewart has been recording for more than 40 years. Do you have any of his music on your iPod/mp3 player? I have close to a hundred songs of his on my iPod. Keep in mind though that I have 15,000 songs on it. I slapped Rod five once during a concert. He was very cool. He lost me at his first Great American Songbook. I will say that while he hasn’t lost me, McCartney doing the standards sucks equally as well. He can kiss my bottom.

3) Rod Stewart is known for his coif. How much time do you spend on your hair each morning? I do comb it, but have never timed it. My bad, apparently.

4) Rod's first child, a daughter, will turn 50 this year. His most recent child, also a daughter, is 2. How close in age are your children? If you don't have any children, how close in age are you and your siblings? If you don't have children OR siblings, well, tell us what's immediately to your left as you respond to this meme. If you don't have anything to your left ... Oh, hell, I give up! My kids have an 11 year span. I have four, all from my first wife. We divorced when my kids ranged from 4 to 15. I really tried to hang in there, but I could not forsake any shot of happiness for theirs. I am extremely close to my oldest three. I have three grandchildren ages almost 1 to almost 11.

5) Which do you prefer -- french toast or pancakes? French toast.

6) When was the last time you lost your cool? I am always cool.

7) Crazy Sam once had a pet hamster she named Bart. Have you ever cared for a hamster or a gerbil? No. But we did rid the house of a couple of mice.

8) Are you ticklish? No.

9) Ouch! You have a headache! What's your go-to remedy? Any old narcotic lying around generally does it.

Well, we have not been around in a while. But after all, that was the point. When I signed off of The Blog I figured never to come come. But Gal & Mr. Lance occasionally draw me in. If there is a next time, we'll see you then. Peace.
