Everybody Knows This is Nowhere

Sunday Stealing: The Social Meme

1. Where was your profile picture taken?
It is a caricature that Kathy had done of me with the Beatles on my 260th birthday.

2. Name someone who made you laugh today.
Even though it’s noon, I got up a half hour ago. So while I’ve spoke my lady, me wife, we don’t chat much until I’m awake.

3. Do you believe exes can be friends? Yes. But in my experience, something usually trips it up. More than anything it is usually is that one person starts developing feelings again. Then you fight over something really stupid. The person with the feelings usually calls off the friendship.

4. How do you feel about Dr Pepper? I went to junior high (remember when middle schools were called that?) with the guy who sang "Be a Pepper".

5. Who was the last person you took a picture of? Kathy was wearing her Pilgrim’s hat and homemade pies when were leaving for my sister’s. I snapped a good one.

6. Are you upset about anything? I think things that happen only upset me concern my job. Every customer is “my boss”. And I have a real boss, too.

10. Has anyone ever called you perfect before? Like being a “perfect” ass? Yes.

11. What song is stuck in your head? Music is always on unless we’re watching TV. That’s what two DJs marrying gets you. Right now Neil Young’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is playing.

12. Someone knocks on your window at 2:00 a.m., who do you want it to be?
Someone with a death wish.

In the Still of the Night

Saturday 9: Cold Turkey

1) Are you still feasting on cold turkey, or any other leftovers, from your Thanksgiving meal? Nope. We had the dinner at my sisters. My parents, Aunt Helen and my sister and her wife were with us. Had they ASKED for a “to-go bag”….
2) AAA says Thanksgiving is a big travel weekend. Did you venture far from home for your holiday dinner? No. The last time that I did was at least one wife ago and we lived in Boston. I'm guessing it was 1996.

3) Is this weekend the official start of the Christmas season for you? If by that you  mean that were gonna have to listen to caroles for a month, then yes.

4) Which couple would you rather hang out with -- Fred and Wilma Flintstone or George and Jane Jetson? The Jetsons. While I by far preferred the Flinstones, the future intrigues me more that the past.

5) Have you/would you ever get your teeth whitened? Yes.
6) Do you still have your high school class ring? Yes. (Although my college ring was stolen.)
7) Here's $50. You must spend it all in one place. What are you going to do with it? I’d buy something for my bride.

8) Could your vehicle use a trip to the car wash right about now? Of course.

9) Did you hit the snooze button this morning? Nope. ON most Fridays we report to work as we see fit. If we don’t have a meeting. Today I did all my stuff starting around 11 AM. But snooze alarm? Nope.

We might do this again. Do your best In The Still of the Night...

Working For a Living

Sunday Stealing: What Ifs & Have Yous

1. Have you anything to confess today? Because of Thanksgiving, I have to work today. We normally don't deliver alcohol on Mondays. We're doing it this week because of losing Thursday. I confess that it sucks.

2. have you ever broken a law? If so, what was it? This is why Lola doesn't write memes anymore. Who'd admit this on the Internet? I know, everyone will say “speeding”. I'll go with that.

3. have you ever committed an act of betrayal against a friend or family member? Explain. Another brilliant question. When did you stop beating your wife?

4. Has someone else done something that, to this day, makes you cringe when you think about them committing the act? Yes. It involved stealing a laptop and giving it to a child. Rather than just giving it the person said, “I found this on the train. If the person cared about it, they'd have remembered it.” I nearly hurled when the child told me the story.

5. Have you ever found yourself sexually aroused by someone that you absolutely should not have been? I'll go with “no” here. This is a classic Lola question. I think she wanted to do her brother-in-law.

6. have you ever cheated at school? how so? Watch how many people say they didn't. Everyone has, but we all say we did not. I did not.

7. What if you came across a backpack stuffed with one hundred thousand dollars. Would you keep it? Yes. I'd throw a party for my blogging buds.

8. What if you were the most powerful person in the world. How would you use that power? I'd feed the hungry, create jobs for all and stop all wars.

9. What if you found a magic lamp? I'd rub the fucker.

10. What if you could change one thing about the world. What would that one thing be? War. Give peace a chance.

11. What if you could take one thing back. What would that one thing be? Working today. Did I mention that it sucks moose? I thought so.

12. What if you were stuck on an island forever but had all the water, food and shelter you needed. What would you do? Go crazy.

13. What if the internet didn't exist? That facebook stock would plummet.

14. What if you never started blogging? I would have not gotten to know so pretty neat folks.

15. What are your November 22 Thanksgiving plans? A family get together with lots of alcohol so we get along.

That's all from Studio 33 1/3 today. Keep on rocking in the free world...

Never Say Never Again

Saturday 9: Live and Let Die

1) "Live and Let Die" was nominated for an Oscar as best song. Do you have a favorite movie song? She from Notting Hill sung by Elvis Costello.

2) The latest Bond movie, Skyfall, is crazy successful. Have you seen it/do you want to see it? I love all things Bond. I cannot wait to see it. In fact years ago in my former blog did a meme and here were the rules:

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to:

1. Choose a category from one of these: Television, Stage & Screen, Nightly News, Publishing, Lives & Times, Music.

2. Find 8 bits of trivia about your selected category

We narrowed it down even further. We decided to do screen, specifically James Bond film.
1. The first James Bond film was Dr. No. It was a second choice. While Casino Royal was the first Ian Fleming novel, it was decided Thunderball would be the first movie. There was a problem, however. Ian Fleming had plagiarized the book from a movie script that was written for him by Kevin McClory and Jack Whitingham. Fleming was sued and the studio decided to go with Dr. No instead. More on this in a bit.

2. Only one singer has sung the lead song more than once. We don’t say “title song” because some of the themes use the movie title while others do not. The one singer to perform on two films was Shirley Bassey. She sang probably the most famous theme, Goldfinger starring Sean Connery. She would later sing Moonraker, a Roger Moore film.
3. Paul McCartney recorded the theme for Live and Let Die. It is a staple to his concerts, along with a huge fireworks display, to this day. When Quantum of Solace was filmed, the second film starring Daniel Craig, Paul McCartney turned down the chance to record the theme for that movie and for him to do a second Bond film.

4. Paul McCartney’s turn down may have created good news for a a pair of singers.  Jack White of The White Stripes and Alicia Keys collaborated on "Another Way to Die," becoming the first duet as a Bond theme.

5. Ian Fleming lost his law suit concerning Thunderball to McClory and Whitingham. They were awarded the movie rights. They had no backing to make the film, so they sold the rights back to Eon, the official production company. They sold them the rights for ten years. When the ten years were up Sean Connery and McClory started writing a film that they were to call Warhead, essentially a remake of Thunderball. Eon sued and McClory backed down lacking funds to fight. By 1983, Warner Brothers decided to back McClory and they won the lawsuit. The film title became Never Say Never Again and starred Sean Connery in his last go round as 007.

6. At the same time as Never Say Never Again came out, the official company released Octopussy starring Roger Moore. Both films did very well, but Octopussy grossed more money.
7. Casino Royal, as we stated, was the first Fleming James Bond novel. It also was the first production of the Ian Fleming character. The book was written in 1953 and in 1954 CBS got the rights to do a one hour adaptation. So who played the first Bond? It was Barry Nelson. Linda Christian was the first Bond Girl and Peter Lore played the first villain. For some reason CBS made “Jimmy Bond” (Yes, that’s what they called him.) a CIA agent and his best friend Felix a British agent in a nationality reversal of sorts.
8. We all know that the first three film actors were Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moore. But did you know that they all filmed a role as James Bond at the same time? You can probably guess that it was in 1983. Moore was in Octopussy and Connery in Never Say Never Again and George Lazenby filmed The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. reunion film as Bond. You see Ian Fleming was also behind the original The Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV series.

3) What do you think makes Bond movies so enduringly popular? They are basically a formatted film including the music, the villains, and the women. They have evolved yet are always familiar.

4) Do you have a favorite among the actors who have played "Bond, James Bond?" Sean Connery IS James Bond. But, I’ve liked most of the actors. I didn’t really care for the way Roger Moore spoofed the character. But, I own all his films as well. Daniel Craig is good, and a bit overrated. I would have preferred that he had black hair.

5) Bond orders martinis -- "shaken, not stirred." What's your regular drink order? Ketel One on the rocks.

 6) Moving from the bar to breakfast -- do you have a favorite cereal? Raisin Bran.

7) Let's daydream about warm weather. Would you rather swim in a lake, the ocean, or an outdoor pool? I’m partial to pools. My son Ben and his wife have a great one.

8) Did you get 8 hours' sleep last night? I didn’t time it. Sorry. Will I fail this quiz now?

9) What are you wearing on your feet right now? My feet are naked.

I couldn't stay away. I really enjoyed my weekend starting with a meme. I guess I just couldn't write them any more. I am very happy with the work The Gal has done. Maybe we'll do it again. You never know. Peace & love.
